Remote Overnight Crew
This is an exciting trail crew event. No experience necessary! Experienced CMC trail members will be on site to supervise and train. If you have always wanted to do trail work to give back, this is your opportunity. A great learning experience awaits!
The Remote Overnight Crew will backpack in to a remote trail section and work Saturday and part of Sunday, spending the night near the worksite. Volunteers may elect to work both days, Saturday only, or Sunday only.
The next ROC weekend is October 7/8 at Lemon Gap on the Appalachian Trail.

Walnut Mountain (A.T.)
April 27-28, 2024
What a weekend! The Remote Overnight Crew was near the Walnut Mountain shelter on the A.T. to do some needed repair work. A crew of 19 turned out in great weather and did a lot of work on the trail eliminating trail creep, adding water diversions, removing roots, and adding steps.
We had 7 newcomers to CMC trail work and a number more new to the ROC. Appalachian Trail Conservancy section maintainers Anne Sentz and Jake Stowe helped out and we had 9 women as part of the weekend! The group included travelers from Charlotte, NC, Durham, NC, Bluffton, SC, Columbia, SC, and a recent newcomer to Asheville from the Dominican Republic! The camaraderie was fantastic and what makes ROCs so special.

Art Loeb
July 22-23, 2023
We had an outstanding 24 people participate in the Remote Overnight in the Shining Rock Wilderness. Our joint efforts on the Art Loeb and Fork Mountain trails for 336 hours calculates out to a value of $10,063 contributed to our Public Lands. We accomplished a lot with the brushing, tread widening, and root removal. Water diversions had not been installed on that trail section for a very long time.
